Sri Lankan Minister lauds UAE

Visiting Sri Lankan Labour Minister, Athavuda Senevirathna, has praised the UAE for the big assistance it extended to the victims of Tsunami which hit the South East Asian country in December 2004. The Minister, who made the remark when he visited in Abu Dhabi yesterday the premises of the UAE Red Crescent Authority, where he was received by the RCA Board Chairman, Khalifa Nasir Al Suwaidi, said the UAE, as usual, was in the forefront of the countries that responded swiftly to reach out to the victims of the disaster.



He expressed his country's profound gratitude to the UAE for the role it continued to play in the rebuilding of areas destroyed by the Tsunami in Sri Lanka by embarking upon a number of vital projects in the areas of housing, health, education and social works.



He conveyed the greetings and gratitude of the government and people of Sri Lanka to the UAE for the latter's kind gesture and for the significant role the RCA played in alleviating the sufferings of the Sri Lankan people. He reviewed with the RCA officials the progress of work on a number of development and humanitarian projects being undertaken by the RCA in his country.



Al Suwaidi, for his part, assured the Sri Lankan minister that all projects being undertaken by his outfit in Sri Lanka were being given good attention by the UAE leadership. He said the RCA was quite aware of the magnitude of devastation caused by the Tsunami hence the RCA's vigorous response to match with the challenge. A number of RCA officials were present at the meeting. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
