As part of the UAE's 40th National Day activities, the students of the Higher Colleges of Technology's Abu Dhabi Women's College engaged visitors at Marina Mall, Abu Dhabi with a celebration of national culture recently.

The event, the idea of the ADWC Student Representative Council, shed light on the importance of national identity under the theme ‘Our heritage is our wealth and our past is our pride.' Students hosted stalls offering henna painting, Arabic coffee, photographs in traditional costume, children's activities, ‘youla' and ‘lewa' traditional dances, as well as competitions.

Visitors could also view exhibitions of student work, rare old photographs of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founder of the UAE, and an album of old newspaper articles relating to the formation of the union.

The college's electronic Gratitude Book allowed visitors to write messages of congratulations to UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and over 400 messages will be handed over to the President. One student said, "This is an opportunity to show our pride in our national identity and share our cultural heritage with visitors.” "We also want to give back part of what our generous country gives us and to express our loyalty and our love for our Rulers on this precious occasion.” – The Gulf Today
