The Centre for Information Affairs has released a study on the relations between United Arab Emirates and the United States of America. The study analyses the political and economic relations between the two countries and sheds light on a number of meetings President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has held in the past years with US Presidents, in pursuit of positive partnerships between the two countries. The study also reviewed the effects of the official visit Sheikh Khalifa paid to United States earlier in 1998.

The relations between UAE and US witnessed a steady growth in strength thanks to the dynamic diplomacy of UAE with US, as the UAE earned a reputation over the past years among the international community as a modern country progressed in time and won the trust of world countries as an ideal nation of excellent political and economic prosperity, the study noted.

It said that political relations between the two countries are built on foundations of openness and realism, contributing to a mutual understanding of the need to protect the interests of the country and realise peace, security and stability in the region.

USA was in the forefront among the world countries who came up to accept UAE as an independent nation when it came into existence in 1971, and these relations continued and became stronger over the years, noted the study. It also shed light on the official visit paid by General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces to the United States and his meetings with US President George Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and other high ranking officials in the US administration in May 2007.

The study gave a brief exposition of the various milestones in the history of UAE-US relations and said that US is considered a prime trade partner of UAE as it is evident from the continuously growing trade figures between the two countries. It also said that United States have given the UAE its expertise in various fields, and a number of agreements have been signed between the academic and educational institutions in both the countries.- Emirates News Agency, WAM
