Sudanese First Vice President Salva Kiir Mayardit, lauded huge humanitarian efforts shouldered by UAE under leadership of President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Receiving the UAE's RCA delegation Saturday at his office in Juba, Kiir added that the "UAE occupies distinguished position due to its humanitarian records worldwide. It has also established cooperation with many countries and needy peoples worldwide due to the wise vision of its leadership".

He commended humanitarian gestures towards the Sudanese people in general and South Sudan in particular, indicating that the UAE's concern about the humanitarian efforts in South Sudan is not new, citing that late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan had visited South Sudan in 1970s.

Kiir underlined that during his recent visit to the country he felt the determination of UAE leadership to step up efforts to improve the humanitarian conditions in South Sudan through provision of basic needs and building of infrastructure. He thanked the RCA under leadership of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the RCA, pointing out that the RCA stood to its previous pledges to dispatch relief flights to Juba.

Ahmed Abdullah Al Ali, head of media section at the RCA, briefed Kiir on the mission of the RCA to the Central Equatorial State. The mission travelled to South Sudan capital Juba upon directives from Sheikh Hamdan. He added that the current RCA mission in South Sudan aims at providing basic food needs, shelter devices, children needs and medical activities, which include a campaign to fight blindness and eye diseases, as well as medical team to treat victims of the landmines. Al Ali stressed that the RCA will offer more assistance until population there overcome the critical stage – Emirates News Agency, WAM
