Sudanese President hails Zayed humanitarian stances

President Omar Al Bashir of Sudan yesterday praised the support availed to his country by H.H. President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. "The Sudanese people will always remember the generous support provided to them by President Sheikh Zayed” said Al Bashir as he received in Khartoum yesterday an international medical delegation from the UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS).

The delegation is currently visiting Sudan to conduct open heart surgeries and also hold a series of meetings with senior officials and international organisations operating in this East African country. "The dispatch of an RCS medical team to conduct open heart surgeries is not a surprising initiative. H.H. President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan always extends a helping hand, in weal and woe to the Sudanese people”, said President Bashir.

He further added: "The visit of the RCS medical delegation is a touching humanitarian gesture which is characteristic of the UAE stances. It will certainly provide hope for cardiac patients in Sudan and further strengthen relations between our two countries. It also comes at a time when Sudan has just emerged from a protracted war and stands desperately in need of medical services”.

The Sudanese leader also praised the efforts of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State for Foreign and Chairman of the RCS for his continued keenness to provide humanitarian assistance to the needy in Sudan. The RCS delegation is led by Dr Salih Al Taei, Director of the Relief Department of the UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS). (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
