On behalf of H.H. President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, opened here today the first ordinary session of the 14th legislative chapter of the National Consultative Council, NCC.

New members were sworn in before Sheikh Sultan, who then addressed the council, noting that the convening of the session coincided with the recovery and safe return of President H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Sheikh Sultan praised the leading and positive role played by the NCC in the country's march for progress and prosperity.

The UAE had materialised its people's ambitions by building a sound economic and social base which is capable of meeting requirements of the present and future generations, thanks to the wise directives of the country's leadership and fruitful co-operation between the government and the NCC. Sheikh Sultan called for strengthening the country's social, economic and cultural base in order address daunting challenges under the rapid global changes. '' We are confident in your council's ability to shoulder its national responsibility in proper way,'' Sheikh Sultan said.

In his address, NCC Speaker Abdullah Al Masoud, stressed the council's determination to continue its national role in solidarity with the government in order to serve interests of the country and its people. The council then held a closed-door session during which Al Masoud was re-elected unanimously for another tenure. The council decided to select its committees on its next meeting on February 5.
