Cairo - Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Abu Al Gheit lauded on Tuesday an initiative launched His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council member and Ruler of Sharjah, for establishing the Sharjah Technology Park in Cairo. 'The Park will be a new valuable addition to technical education in Egypt.

The facility will help Egypt to catch up with the rapid developments sweeping the technology and information era', the Egyptian minister said after talks with Sheikh Sultan over ways of enhancing bilateral ties for the interest of the two brotherly peoples.

Mutual cooperation in the fields of knowledge and cultures was also reviewed.

For his part, Sheikh Sultan said his contribution to build the technology park was motivated by the remarkable success achieved by the Sharjah-based park.

'We hope this park will assist Egypt to develop its human resources in specializations needed by its labour market, the Sharjah ruler added.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) for construction of the park on the October 6th city was signed by Sheikh Esam bin Saqr Al Qasimi, chief of Sharjah Ruler's Office and Egyptian Ministers Ahmed Al Maghrabi of Housing and Urban Development and Dr. Hani Hilal of Higher Education. According to the MoU, the park, to be modelled on the mother facility in Sharjah, will house a technical school and technology faculty with a student population of up to 1500.

Later, Sheikh Sultan visited Al Azher University campus where he met with its chancellor Dr Ahmed Al Tayeb and the teaching and administrative staff.

Dr. Al Tayeb thanked Sheikh Sultan for his donation to boarding facilities of the university which accommodate 400 foreign female undergraduates. On Monday, Sheikh Sultan met with a group of Arab and Egyptian intellectuals, thinkers, authors and media personalities on an open evening at the Egyptian Writers' Association. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
