Mrs. Raja Easa Al-Gurg, President of Dubai Business Women Council (DBWC), took part in a roundtable discussion held on Wednesday at ESAB Middle East, Jebel Ali Free Zone. The event took place in the presence of HRH Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden during her visit to ESAB Dubai's facility. Many prominent women who are leading figures in their respective fields, also took part in the discussion.

The roundtable touched on several topics, including the exploration of the relationship between the UAE and Sweden, developing the foundations of commerce and growth potential of trade and focusing on the question of how such a relationship could develop around women leaders and sustainable businesses. It was noted that the recent economic crisis has demonstrated that more gender-balanced companies, organisations and countries benefit from sustained economic growth and innovation.

Sweden and the UAE boast many powerful female leaders in the business sector, within politics and civil society, who can facilitate collaborative efforts for long-term sustainable and socially conscious economic growth.

Mrs. Raja Easa Al-Gurg presented a working paper titled "Emirati Women... Leading the Way," during which she stressed the important and vital role that is played by UAE women under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, UAE President and his brother, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and their brothers, the Rulers of the UAE, due to whose wise leadership women are able to occupy the highest positions, contribute effectively and practically in the development and prosperity of the State, and also aspire to become effective factors in international forums. Already, she added, they are viewed as successful models in all fields of economic and social endeavour.

Al-Gurg explained that the entry of UAE women in different sectors has come as a result of the leaders' confidence in them, and because of their efficiency and commitment to educational attainment and winning sufficient experience. This has made them take charge at the helm of national renaissance, alongside men. She pointed out the important role played by women in different societies, saying that communities that do not give women enough opportunities to play their roles, will face many difficulties. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
