The TRA accomplished a new international achievement when the Digital Forensics Lab at aeCERT in the TRA, got the international accreditation by the American Society of Criminal Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB).
The UAE becomes the only state in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region to obtain this accreditation.
With this achievement, the results of investigations carried out by the Digital Forensics Lab at the TRA is recognised not in the UAE only, but also in various courts around the world.
This achievement came as a result of the TRA's efforts aimed at strengthening the global position of the UAE in the area of information technology in general, and in digital investigations particularly. Accordingly, the Digital Forensics Lab underwent many phases of evaluation by experts from the ASCLD, in the context of verification of eligibility for accreditation. The evaluation shows the superiority of the UAE laboratory over many world laboratories, which had also applied to obtain the accreditation.
Nasser Al Ghanim, director-general of TRA, said, "We are proud to achieve new success in such a modern field as electronic investigations. We are pleased to dedicate this achievement to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and to Prime Minister and Vice-President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and their brethren, Members of the Supreme Council and Rulers of the Emirates.”
Al Ghanim added: "With the proliferation of digital technologies at all levels in our contemporary world, and with Internet users in the world exceeding 1.7 billion users, digital crime has become one of the challenges facing the courts in the world. Therefore, there must be sophisticated laboratories and human competencies capable of addressing the attempts of criminals to exploit technology to commit illegal acts. The UAE has established a digital forensics laboratory, and handed over the task of managing some of the finest qualified Emirati engineers. The lab was able to establish a distinct global reputation by winning the last accreditation.” – The Gulf Today
