The Associate Director of the Institute of Eastern Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Dr. Vladimir Isaev said that the UAE-Russian relations grows steadily and discriminately. This came during a television interaction between Moscow and Abu Dhabi on the occasion of Russian President Valdimir Putin's official visit to the UAE.

During the interaction, the participants discussed the status of economical and political cooperation between both countries and ways of developing it.

Dr. Isaev, who opened the discussions, said that the diplomatic relations between Moscow and Abu Dhabi were established during the Soviet Union era, but the mutual cooperation stayed, for a long time, at a standstill status. But, starting with the process of change /Perestroika/ in the Soviet Union in the second half of the 1980s of the twentieth century, the UAE showed interest in Russia and vice versa.

He pointed out that the great credit to revive this mutual interest goes back to the efforts of workers at the Institute of Eastern Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which issued a number of large scientific research devoted to the history and present of the Emirates.

He mentioned that experts of the institute received, in the early 1980s, a delegation of professors and scientists from the Emirates University then Russian delegations visited the Emirates more than once.

In the 1990s, the UAE's interest in new Russia increased, while Russia's attention to the conditions of the UAE increased as a country exercising its reasonable and balanced policy in the fields of politics, economy and social protection of citizens and active in the exchange of delegations and businessmen between both countries.
