LIUZHOU: Team Abu Dhabi's Thani Al Qamzi and Ahmed Al Hameli are in Liuzhou in south eastern China making their final preparations for this week's crucial 19th Grand Prix of China, round three of the 2013 UIM F1 H20 World Championship.

Both drivers have been involved in intensive physical training and exercise in the UAE in recent weeks to ensure that they are in tip top condition for the rigours of Oct.2, Wednesday's race on Liuzhou's Liu River, where they face the challenge of overcoming a points' deficit in the championship after a disappointing result in the Ukraine recently.

Qamzi and Hameli finished seventh and ninth in the rankings in Kiev and currently hold fifth and seventh in the points' standings with four races remaining. Fifth-placed Qamzi trails early season leader Shaun Torrente by 17 points, making it vital that both he and Ahmed snatch a podium finish in China.

Finland's Sami Selio lies second - a mere point behind Torrente - and Frenchman Phillipe Chiappe and defending World Champion Alex Carella also pose obstacles for Team Abu Dhabi and hold third and fourth in the championship.

Mohammed Al Mehairbi will represent Team Abu Dhabi in the two UIM F-4S races for the Eurofin Trophy. The Emirati currently holds fourth spot in the points' table behind Germany's Mike Szimura, Sweden's Niklas Friberg and Qatar's Khalid Abdullah Al Kuwari.

Team Abu Dhabi will be permitted a first free practice session on Monday afternoon from 14.30hrs (10.30hrs UAE time).

Practice continues on Tuesday morning and the first of the UIM F-4S time trials for the Eurofin Trophy begins at 10.00hrs (06.00hrs UAE time).

The first of the F-4S races follows at 13.30hrs (09.30hrs UAE time) and F1 qualifying takes place from 15.00hrs (11.00hrs UAE time).

Wednesday's action gets underway with further free practice and time trials and the second of the F-4S races starts at 11.30hrs (07.30hrs UAE time). The Grand Prix of China will begin at at 15.05hrs (11.05hrs UAE time). – The Gulf Today
