Immigration officials of the GCC countries yesterday approved technical specifications for unified GCC Identity Cards for citizens of the member states to travel within the council territories. They will begin today a three-day meeting to discuss the mechanism for the early introduction of the card. The specifications were approved during the first meeting of the Technical Committee; presided over by Major Nassir bin Abdullah Al Thani, Head of the Qatari delegation, in Abu Dhabi yesterday.

The decision to ease inter-GCC travel for nationals of the region was adopted during the 21st meeting of the GCC Interior Ministers in Muscat. The implementation of the decision was delayed, pending the completion of the electronic network. The proposal to link the entry points was made by the UAE authorities at the GCC Secretariat to help coordinate visa measures and control the flow of expatriate workers in the region.
