The ID card deadline to end in five days
posted on 17/11/2009

Five days are to go for the deadline set by the Interior Ministry to obtain the identity cards by citizens and residents to end.
The cards will become in effect from 22nd November, after which the Interior Ministry will not accept any transactions from citizens and residents for the services provided through the various security authorities and police directorates in all emirates, excluding the issuance and renewal of residence visas. This exclusion comes in consideration of the fact that a valid residence permit is a precondition for applying for identity cards.
The expatriate residents in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah will be exempted from this mandatory requirement in the current period and the rule related to them will be announced later. The exemption is given due to the limited capacity of the ID card issuing centres in these emirates and the difficulty in handling the applications within a particular period of time.
The Interior Ministry said that this decision is based on the Federal Law No.9 / Year 2006 pertaining to population registration and identity card (PRIDC), as well as the cabinet ordinance No.201/1/Year 2007 in this regard. So all segments of the society and their families should hurry to complete the formalities for obtaining the ID card, the ministry said.
Acting Director of Media and Public Relations at the Interior Ministry Brigadier Mohammad Saleh Badah said that the ministry had issued earlier warnings in this regard to citizens and residents and so will refuse to accept any transactions for its various services after 22nd this month if the applicant did not carry the ID card. They will also be liable to pay penalties for any delay in renewals of documents such as the vehicle ownership cards, he added. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
