The Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi and the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado, the United States of America, have signed a 10-year agreement that will bring world class higher education and research to the UAE. The Petroleum Institute plans to open its doors on September 15, 2001 for selected UAE National Secondary School students (Science Stream). The Petroleum Institute, established by the Government of Abu Dhabi as an independent legal entity, is committed to the education of students and their development as a whole-person in those fields of engineering and applied science that support and advance the petroleum industry in the United Arab Emirates and the surrounding regions. The vision of the Institute is to offer baccalaureate and graduate degrees of international repute, to be a venue for research to support curriculum replenishment, advanced studies and industry innovation, and to host continuing education programmes for practising professionals.
