Thuraya Telecommunications Company, the world leading mobile satellite operator, has expanded the distribution chain for its competitive satellite broadband services in Europe.
The provision of Thuraya's mobile satellite handhelds by Applied Satellite Technology (AST) has been extended to Thuraya's broadband service, "ThurayaIP" and other solutions based on it. The UK-based satellite communications provider will now be distributing ThurayaIP in Europe and other global markets.
ThurayaIP is the world's smallest broadband solution that is uniquely A5 sized with transmission speeds of up to 444 Kbps. It was the first satellite broadband terminal to achieve video streaming speeds of up to 384 Kbps. Both portable and light to carry, ThurayaIP has several versatile solutions based on the terminal that include Thuraya Netted Comms and Thuraya Lease which are designed for specialised use. It is an ideal broadband solution for a variety of market segments such as vertical markets customers ranging from oil and gas, broadcast media, government, military, large corporates as well as individual professional users. Backed by a congestion free network, ThurayaIP provides efficient broadband service within Thuraya's 140 country coverage area that spans from Iceland to Australia.
"ThurayaIP, with its portable size, speed and versatility, is designed to be the most competitive high-speed offering in the mobile satellite broadband market. As such, it is anticipated to see a great demand in Europe's sophisticated countries where the operations of several vertical markets rely heavily on Internet-based communications," said Thuraya's Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Yousuf Al Sayed.
He also added that the unique positioning of ThurayaIP as an efficient solution backed by a dynamic congestion-free network is highly expected to drive the growth of the service in Europe. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
