(WAM) British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, has said that the current international crisis does not only pose a challenge to the international community but also reminds us of the need to support political stability throughout the world, to exert more efforts to solve conflicts, reduce tensions and to work for peace in the Middle East, the Balkans and other places, just as we need to deal with terrorism and factors that breed terrorism.

The British Premier made his remarks in a message to the Zayed Centre for Co-ordination and Follow up, ZCCF. He pointed out that the consensus to combat terrorism was strong and worldwide. 'This is manifested in the resolutions in support of fighting terrorism issued by the United Nations, the Group of Eight, the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, NATO, the European Union, and the UN Security Council,' he said. He stressed that all countries of the world had announced their readiness to take measures to block the sources of terrorist finance and to deny safe haven to any terrorist organisation. Blair said that the war against terror must be worldwide, adding that the ongoing military operation in Afghanistan was carefully and accurately planned in detail. 'We have exerted great efforts in investigating the attacks to single out those responsible,' he said, adding that great care was being taken to avoid casualties among innocent civilians, who have no hand in this war.

The British premier reiterated that the September11 terrorist attack on the United States was an act of evil and hatred, which had caused victims of thousands of innocent people, adding that the international military coalition is working side by side with international humanitarian assistance to help the Afghan people. 'That is very important just as the military operation is,' he said. (WAM)
