Top stars for Dubai Open arrive today

Seeded players and Grand Masters from Armenia, Russia and Georgia will be arriving here today. The top stars are reaching two days before the Dubai Open Chess championship 2003 to acclimatise themselves ahead of the event. Top-seeded Grandmaster Alexander Sakaev, with 2664 points, is back in Dubai in search of his first title. Sakaev has been outpaced in early attempts and perhaps his current form will be crucial in justifying his top seeding. It will be a tough act for the grandmasters to surge to the top among 45 players from their GM club. The earlier rounds will see a keen battle. (The Gulf News)
