Dubai Municipality's Local Earthquake Monitoring Network (LEMN), said a tremor on 2.2 Richter scale jolted East of Masafi district in the emirate of Fujairah at a distance of 1.7 km, and on a distance of 89 km East of Dubai City at 7. 47pm on Monday.
The quake, which was felt by some inhabitants in Massafi district, did not cause any losses.
Mohammed Mashroom, director of the survey department at Dubai Municipality, said the tremor occurred near the Eastern Region of the UAE, known for the quake activity as many quakes were recorded in November 2002, March and September 2007, February 2008 and several light tremors, and quarry blasts.
The area is located in the mountainous area in extension to the mountains' range of North Oman. Such tremors were attributed to the tectonic activities and stresses that accumulate from quarry blasts near this region. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
