Tunisia's interim president receives UAE Foreign Minister

Tunisia's interim President Fouad Mebazaa received yesterday at Carthage Palace visiting UAE Foreign Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The meeting reviewed the close bilateral ties and avenues for diversifying and strengthening joint cooperation so as to measure up to the common aspirations of the two brotherly peoples.

The interim president said the transitional phase Tunisia is currently undergoing would open up new horizons for the Tunisians to build a better future that guarantees them dignity, freedom and welfare.

He affirmed that Tunisia gives special regard to its relations with Arab countries and hopes Tunisia-UAE cooperation would receive more momentum in light of the available potentials and opportunities for stronger cooperation in various fields.

For his part, the UAE foreign minister reiterated the UAE's support for Tunisia during the transitional period and its desire to boost bilateral cooperation through increasing UAE investment in Tunisia so as to push development drive by the interim government forward.

Sheikh Abdullah said: 'No doubt, Tunisia is passing through delicate circumstances but with the wisdom of the Tunisian government and patience of the Tunisian people, the country can overcome this situation. We want to assure that we are standing beside our brethren in Tunisia to help the country realise aspirations of the Tunisian citizen.' 'This phase calls for pooling energies of all segments of the Tunisian people and a real support from Tunisia's brethren and friends so as to ride out this wave,' he affirmed.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Abdullah held a meeting with Tunisian Interim Prime Minister, and assured him of the UAE's support for the Tunisian people to consolidate their options and help them to advance the transitional course.

The meeting discussed ways of assisting the Tunisian economy so as to overcome current difficulties, reviving stalled UAE projects in Tunisia and launching new ones. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
