U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates visited yesterday afternoon the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi.
In a statement made on this occasion Gates said: "It is a true honor to be invited to visit Sheikh Zayed's mausoleum and the mosque named in his honor. It is a beautiful site and a fitting tribute to the father of this nation-a man of great vision, tolerance, and judgment".
He also said that for many years the United States and the United Arab Emirates have been close partners.
Robert Gates added that during his meeting later today with HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces, he will discuss the deep and long-standing friendship between the UAE and the US. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
