Vienna: The 7th meeting of the UAE-Austrian Joint Committee ended here yesterday. It was held under the aegis of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE Foreign Minister, and the Austrian Minister of Economics, Family, '&' Youth, Reinhold Mitterlehner.

The joint committee discussed ways to develop bilateral relations between the two countries and to explore new avenues for cooperation, with a focus on economic matters, trade, investment, energy, renewable energy, healthcare, transport, tourism and finance.

The two sides expressed satisfaction with the progress of bilateral relations in all areas. They noted that the programme of co-operation had already identified new areas in which the two countries could work together and that the committee's meeting had reflected the interest of both sides in developing these relations so as to meet the objectives of the leadership of both countries and to meet common goals and interests. It was agreed that it was important to continue the work of the joint committee and to ensure that its recommendations were implemented.

The minutes of the meeting were signed by the UAE Assistant Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs, Khalid Ghanim Al Ghaith, and Bernadette Gierlinger, Vice-Minister at the Austrian Ministry for Economics, Family and Youth.

A number of bilateral agreements have already been signed between the UAE and Austria, covering economic and trade cooperation, the promotion and protection of investments, double taxation avoidance and air transport as well as diplomatic and consular matters. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
