The UAE-Bahrain joint committee meeting concluded yesterday during which the UAE side was led by Sheikh Hamdan while the Bahraini side was led by Sheikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Bahrain.

Sheikh Hamdan and Sheikh Mohammed signed the meetings' minutes. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed for funding the second phase of the Sheikh Zayed City project in Bahrain and the land reclamation in the Northern region.

A joint statement was issued following the signing ceremony which stated that the MoU was signed in line with the spirit of fraternal cooperation between King Hamad and Sheikh Khalifa.

"In keeping with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to provide a grant of 25 million US dollars to finance the second phase of the Sheikh Zayed City in Bahrain and another grant of 25 million US dollars to undertake the land reclamation works at the Northern Region, two Memoranda of Understanding were signed on the grants between the government of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Abu Dhabi development Fund (ADDF)." The Sheikh Zayed City project in Bahrain involves construction of residential houses and buildings as per plans by the Bahraini government.

The MoUs were signed by Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Bahrain's Finance Minister and Saeed Khalfan Matar Al Rumaithy, Director General of the ADDF.

Sheikh Hamdan also conveyed the greetings of H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai and General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces to King Hamad and to Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Bahrain's Crown Prince.

Sheikh Hamdan stressed the UAE's keenness to further develop its cooperation with Bahrain to achieve aspirations of the two brotherly peoples and to reflect the strong ties between the two countries.

"The fourth joint committee meetings come as an embodiment to the keenness of the two countries' leaders to boost cooperation and to achieve integration between the two countries," Sheikh Hamdan said. He added that the meetings were a good opportunity to exchange views on the current regional and international issues.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Mubarak welcomed Sheikh Hamdan and his accompanying delegation, emphasising the importance of the joint committee meeting and the positive outcome it has arrived at so far. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
