The UAE and China signed in Beijing yesterday a judicial agreement on legal assistance in civil and commercial matters. Mohammed bin Nakhira Al Dhahiri, Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Awqaf and Zhang Fusen, Justice Minister, signed for the UAE and China respectively. The agreement regulates announcements, notifications, recognition of arbitrators' judgements and conditions thereof. The two ministers also discussed judicial cooperation between their two countries. The UAE had proposed to the Chinese side to enter into an agreement on judicial assistance in criminal matters, and both sides later agreed to form a joint committee comprising experts from the two countries to discuss a draft agreement prior to signing it later. The UAE and China signed in 2001 an extradition agreement. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
