Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Economy discussed yesterday with Herve Novelli, French Secretary of State responsible for Businesses and Foreign Trade, ways of enhancing the economic partnership between UAE and France. They also discussed ways for boosting trade relations between the two countries and overcoming all the impediments retarding the two-way trade, ultimately paving way into the creation of an economic partnership. The discussions also touched ongoing negotiations on the free trade between GCC countries and European Union.

They underlined the importance of continued meetings between the business community in both countries and utilizing the investment opportunity existing in UAE and France.

During the meeting, they agreed to set up a working group consisting members of both Ministries, with an aim of enhancing economic relations. Novelli told WAM that the two countries were seeking to enhance their strategic partnership, culminated by the recent visit of H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to France."The strong presence of over 360 French companies in the UAE is yet a testimony to the strong bonds between the two countries," he said.

Novelli praised the efforts being made by Sheikha Lubna to further boost economic cooperation between the UAE and France. He also lauded the economic policies adopted by the UAE that focus on diversifying sources of income and minimizing dependence on oil. He revealed that both UAE and France agreed to establish a joint business group with a main task of removing any barriers facing trade between the two countries. He however declined to specify such barriers. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
