UAE-India relations deeply rooted: Sheikh Abdullah

New Delhi - Minister of Information and Culture has said that relations between the UAE and India was deeply rooted and described these relations as "very advanced and moving in the mutual interest of the two countries.” In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency, KUNA, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan said that the visiting UAE delegation to India had held talks with Indian officials and discussed with them a number of issues, including security, strategic and commercial issues, in addition to a mechanism for the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries in various areas.

He pointed out that the UAE delegation had also discussed a number of issues of mutual interest, including the situation in Iraq and other issues related to the exchange of information and extradition of criminals. He said the delegation had separately met with the Indian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, L.K. Advani and the Indian Foreign Minister, Jaswant Singh, and discussed with them the need for India to play an active role in support of peace in the Middle East, Afghanistan and Iraq, adding that the Indian Foreign Minister said his country welcomes any request for sending Indian peace-keeping force to Iraq.

The UAE Minister said that the delegation had also discussed how to boost investment, economic and trade cooperation between the UAE and India in the years ahead. UAE Ambassador, Saeed Mohammed Al Shamshi, said that the UAE delegation's visit seeks to enhance bilateral ties between the two countries. He described these ties as very advanced and said that these relations, which dated back to long years, must be invested in all fields. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
