UAE-Moroccan Joint Higher Committee holds 4th session

Casablanca - The UAE-Moroccan Joint Higher Committee which is headed by UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mohammed bin Eisa held its fourth session here last night.

Sheikh Abdullah voiced Sheikh Khalifa's appreciation for the hospitable reception accorded to the UAE delegation in Casablanca. In his speech at the session, Sheikh Abdullah expressed UAE's keen interest in boosting relations with Morocco.

He further expressed deep concerns about the situation in Lebanon where Lebanese people suffer due to the ongoing Israeli barefaced aggression which is destroying civilian infrastructure and kill innocent citizens.

He stressed that the UAE would continue efforts with Arab and friendly countries to put and end to the Israeli violence and place more international pressure on the Jewish State to stop its aggression on Lebanon.

Sheikh Abdullah reiterated that Lebanon needs immediate humanitarian relief support and called for more efforts to overcome obstacles that prevent delivery of this support to the needy in Lebanon.

He also expressed the UAE's unwavering support to the Palestinian cause and said that King Abdullah bin AbdulAziz' initiative at Beirut Pan-Arab summit is the only option to establish peace and put an end to the Arab-Israeli conflict.

On Iraq, Sheikh Abdullah said the Iraqi government was democratically elected and enjoys support of other Arab countries. Speaking on the nuclear Iranian file, Sheikh Abdullah said Iran is an important regional and Muslim country and that the UAE is keenly interested in Iran's stability. He called Iran to respond to International demands which, he said, would support regional stability.

In his speech at the session, Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mohammed bin Eisa called for boosting bilateral relations and expressed deep appreciation for the UAE leadership for developing all ways of cooperation to the benefit of the two fraternal countries.

Speaking on the latest development in the Middle East, he expressed deep regrets about the deteriorating situation in Lebanon, Palestine and Iraq.

Bin Eisa condemned the Israeli aggression on Lebanon and the killing of innocent Lebanese children, women and elderly people and the intentional destruction of the country's civilian infrastructure. He voiced Morocco's support to the Palestinian people and called for a comeback to the negotiation table, saying that peace is the only way to end all conflicts in the Middle East.

On Iraq, he called all Iraqi parties and factions to unite, close ranks and adopt dialogue for the benefit of Iraq now and in the future.

The UAE-Moroccan Joint Higher Committee introduced several recommendations to bolster bilateral cooperation in various areas. The committee also approved the final drafts of four health, environmental, commercial marine navigation, scientific cooperation. Politically, the two sides expressed identical attitudes towards regional and international issues.

The two sides expressed deep concern about the deteriorating situation in Lebanon and Palestine and called the international community to take immediate and effective action to stop military operations and exert efforts to resume negotiations among parties to reach a just and comprehensive solution for the Palestinian cause in accordance with the international resolutions.

The two sides also underscored Iraq's modernity and territorial integrity and called all Iraqi parties and factions to avoid slipping into sectarian confrontations. The UAE and Moroccan delegations condemned rampaging extremism, terrorism and violence and called for the coordination of efforts to confront and uproot these unhealthy phenomena which cannot be associated with any religion or civilization.
