UAE-Oman re-affirm the need to bolster ties

The UAE and Oman yesterday re-affirmed the need to bolster economic co-operation in a manner that would be more responsive to the aspirations of the people of the two countries. This came in a joint communiqué issued at the end of the two-day meeting which concluded here today. The UAE delegation to the meeting was led by Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, while the Omani side was headed by Ali bin Hamoud bin Ali Al Bousaeedi, Minister of the Sultanate Royal Court.



The two sides expressed satisfaction over the performance of the UAE-Omani Company which recorded a net profit of 2.2 Omani Riyals last year. They also signed an agreement on terms of Dh238 million loans, to be provided by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development to fund a road project in Oman. On cooperation between the two countries in the area of water and electricity, an agreement that will allow the two sides to share energy resources is still being finalised. The two sides also outlined a joint plan for combating drugs. They further agreed to cooperate in the area of civil defence in case of any emergencies. The two sides agreed to hold the next meeting in Muscat next year. The joint annual meetings between the UAE and Oman are held as part a policy to augment the historical ties between the two countries, as envisioned by of H.H President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and H.M Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed.
