London - The UAE-UK officials met here on Wednesday to explore ways of enhancing mechanisms of joint cooperation in a host of areas including the fight against organised crime, terrorism and money laundering.

The meeting of the UAE-UK's fourth joint steering committee took place at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and was co-chaired by Mohammed Abdul Jalil, Assistant Under Secretary at UAE Foreign Ministry for International Affairs and Director of Strategic Planning at the Foreign Office Marriott Owsley.

Abdul Jalil said the meeting fell within the framework of the growing longstanding bilateral relations.

The two sides, he added, had discussed ways of strengthening programmes and mechanisms of joint cooperation for combating organised crime, terrorism, money laundering and commercial fraud. 'Future action plans in different domains were also discussed and achievements made in regard to implementation of already signed agreements,' 'he said. The two sides, he explained, had agreed to continue bilateral consultation and coordination in these issues.

The UAE delegation to the meeting is comprised of representatives from Ministries of Interior and Justice, UAE Armed Forces, UAE Central Bank and Mohammed Isa Al Qattami, Charge d' Affaires at UAE Embassy in UK and Ireland. From the UK side, the meeting was attended by delegates from Home Office, Department of Treasury, Customs and Tax Department, Office of the Queen and UK Ambassador to UAE Edward Anthony Oakden.
