The UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS) has earned a worldwide reputation for its humanitarian initiatives both inside and outside the UAE thanks to the unlimited support of President His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Due to the continuous follow-up of Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and RCS Chairman Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the society, through its programmes and activities, has gained great respectability.

A report by the International Federation of the Red Crescent and Red Cross Societies, classified the UAE RCS as the first Arab charity organisation and among the world's best seven societies in terms of administering aid to needy people all over the world. The exceptional services offered by the RCS during the war in Afghanistan was highly appreciated by the international community.

On the home front, the society has been active in providing means of decent life to the needy. It started programmes to help the sick, orphans, widows and the poor. It has also organised educational programmes targeting all classes of the society. The society also conducted a series of courses for students on first aid and actively took part in all campaigns to spread health awareness and to combat epidemics and bad social habits.

In the past several years, the RCS adopted a programme for sponsoring orphans with the help of national and foreign philanthropists. It also initiated a programme to provide care for students, financial support to widows and divorcees, helping prisoners families, providing medical treatment to sick people and supporting Quran memorisation centres. On the instructions of Sheikh Hamdan, the society has opened new branches in Abu Dhabi's Mirfa, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. During the Holy Month of Ramadan, the society sets up 20 tents in Abu Dhabi, Bani Yas and Mussafah to cater a daily Iftar for more than 3,000 fasting people throughout the holy month.
