Interior Minister Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sudanese Interior Minister Al-Zubair Basheer Taher signed in Abu Dhabi yesterday a memorandum of understanding on security coordination and cooperation between the two countries.

According to the MoU, the two countries shall cooperate in fighting terrorism and organized crime, drugs trade, protecting facilities, civil defence, security information and media, police education and training and criminal investigation and evidence.

The MoU allows for exchanging security information and facilitations in education and training and exchanging visits between security departments in the two countries. The MoU also authorizes the exchange of information on security and police educational curricula and training plans in addition to participation in conferences, security and police symposia, in particular those concerned with fighting crime, traffic safety, education and training.

The MoU shall be valid for five years and is to be annually reviewed by a joint committee chaired by the two Interior Ministers. The MoU finalises the ongoing current cooperation between the two countries and allows for new avenues of cooperation between the two Ministries, Sheikh Saif said.

The MoU is confirmation of the UAE's keenness on establishing foundations for cooperation with Arab and friendly countries and on activating relations with them to best serve security and stability in the country and fighting crime and violence in the region and the world, he added.

The signing ceremony was attended by a number of senior officers, a representative of the Foreign Ministry, members of the Sudanese delegation and Sudanese Charge d'Affaires in Abu Dhabi. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
