Geneva: The international community has a great responsibility to protect children and to ensure their physical and mental safety, especially in the areas of armed conflicts, says Obaid Salem Al Zaabi, UAE's Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva.

Al Zaabi made the remarks yesterday as he delivered the Arab Group's statement before the Interactive Dialogue with the Secretary-General's Special Representative on Children in Armed Conflict.

He reiterated Arab Group's position on the exploitation of children in armed conflicts in violation of international laws and ethical values.

He also voiced the Group's concern over reports of children abduction and recruitment by rebels in Sudan's South Kordufan region. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
