Islamabad - Commander of UAE military relief force in Pakistan said the UAE aircrafts airlifted and dropped more than 100 ton of urgent assistance to various villages in the flood-hit regions of Punjab and Sind.

'The copter swarm is operating 6 to 9 trips a day depending on the weather condition in these two regions, he said, noting that his relief unit was among the first who swiftly responded to relief appeals to assist population affected by the devastating floods and alleviate their suffering.

According to him, the UAE troops had early surveyed the affected areas to assess the required relief supplies especially dates and non-perishable food items.

Based on Multan airport, the UAE Chinook copters are also airlifting and dropping humanitarian assistance offered by sisterly and friendly countries to the trapped people in the two regions.

Meanwhile, Colonel Zahid Hussain, spokesperson of the Multan military base, said the UAE force is the only air force that airlifts and distributes food assistance in the Punjab and Sind.

He told reporters that a three-tier plan has been chalked out to handle the disaster.

The first part, he explained would envisage taking delivery of assistance, the second features rescue and treatment and the third will focus on reconstruction. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
