UAE FM holds talks with Romania PM

Bucharest - Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc received on Thursday UAE Foreign Minister, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who is visiting Romania as part of a world whirl tour to rally support for the UAE's bid to host the headquarters of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in the Masdar city in Abu Dhabi.

The two ministers discussed adequate ways of enhancing cooperation between the two countries especially in economic and investment sectors.

As he welcomed Sheikh Abdullah, the Romanian premier commended the economic development the UAE is currently witnessing and hoped the Emirati-Romania relations would see more progress. Sheikh Abdullah conveyed to the Romanian prime minister the greetings of Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai H. H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and his best wishes of more progress and prosperity to the Romanian people.

For his part, the Romanian prime minister asked Sheikh Abdullah to convey his greetings to Sheikh Mohammed, affirming his country's sincere desire to further develop its bonds with the UAE, given its prominent profile worldwide.

Sheikh Abdullah praised the growing relations of friendship between the two countries.

Later, Sheikh Abdullah met with Romanian Minister of Economy Adriean Videanu for discussion on mechanisms of boosting bilateral economic relations. In view of the huge economic potentials and favourable investment environment the two countries possess, the two ministers explored the possibility of utilising these rich and qualitative opportunities for establishing joint ventures for the best interest of the two friendly peoples.

Affirming the viable investment climate in the UAE in terms of flexible legislations and opportunities, Sheikh Abdullah invited Romanian business and investors to take advantage of this encouraging environment to increase their investment in UAE markets so as to boost economic exchange.

'Relations between the UAE and Romania have seen rapid progress over the recent culminating in the conclusion of a series of agreement for joint economic, trade, investment and air transport cooperation," the UAE foreign minister said, adding that two-way trade exchange were valued at Dh564 million in 2007.

Ways of encouraging businessmen to seize opportunities for investment in tourism, energy and renewable energy were also discussed.

'The UAE's ever-developing investment environment makes it one of the most open economy in the Middle East and a dynamic world and regional hub for major global firms," he added.

'Romanian companies can tap the attractive investment climate, and flexible world-class trade services in the UAE to expand their operations in the Middle East and Asia," he added.

For his part, the Romanian minister of economy highlighted bilateral relations particularly in economy and called for expanding these bonds in compatible with pace of growth in economies of the two countries. – Emirates News Agency, WAM – Emirates News Agency, WAM
