Tunis - Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan met yesterday with Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdelwaheb Abdallah. The meeting was attended by Mohammed Abdul Raheem Abdul Jaleel, Foreign Ministry's Assistant Under Secretary for International Cooperation Affairs and by Sultan Rashid Al Kaytoub, UAE Ambassador to Tunisia.

Sheikh Abdullah and Abdelwahab Abdallah then opened 5th meeting of UAE-Tunisian joint committee. Sheikh Abdullah said the committee meeting added to the already strong relations between the UAE and Tunisia, saying that the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan paid a special attention to developing ties with Tunisia. He also referred to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan's keenness to promote ties with that brotherly country and to the visit made recently by Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to Tunisia.

According to Sheikh Abdullah, topics relating to enhancing bilateral cooperation in economic, industrial, technical and investment fields were high on the meeting's agenda. He said that the UAE was interested to boost cooperation in the areas of renewable energy, culture education, security, judiciary, laws, transport and telecommunications. He also proposed formation of a committee of experts from the two countries to follow up implementation of agreements. The proposal was seconded by the Tunisian Minister.

Abdelwahab Abdallah welcomed Sheikh Abdullah, describing him as "Tunisia's good friend." He expressed the hope that the meeting will contribute further in boosting relations between the two countries and to consolidate legal framework of cooperation through signing new agreements on land transport, religious affairs, education and exchange granting of land plots to build the embassies on. The Tunisian Minister also voiced satisfaction at the increasing trade between the two countries which reached 90 million Tunisian Dinar last year. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
