The Ministry of Interior issued a decision here today pardoning expatriates who have been residing illegally in the country in violation of the immigration laws. According to the Ministerial decision, the violators will be allowed to leave the country without paying fines during a grace period, starting from January 1. "As part of the Ministry's keenness to implement all the immigration laws, and in view of the presence of large numbers of violators of the Residency Law No. (6) of 1973, regulating the entry and residency of aliens in the country, it has been decided that an amnesty be granted to these violators, provided that they leave the country within a grace period that will start from January 1st until April 30th 2003” the Ministry said in a statement.

The statement said that the violators should report to their nearest immigration and residency authorities in the UAE in order to obtain necessary permits that will allow them to leave the country, and thereby avoid any legal action that the ministry would take against those who will continue to remain in the country at the end of the grace period.
