Representatives of the UAE National Committee to Combat Human trafficking received Mrs. Najat Maalla M'jid, Special Rapporteur on the Sale of Child, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography from the United Nations Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR) at the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs premises, in presence of other members of the Geneva-based organization.

The meeting discussed key issues related to the fight against human trafficking as well as initiatives executed by the UAE and steps implemented to combat human trafficking.

The committee presented the efforts and on-ground procedures taken by the country's authorities to combat human trafficking. A detailed presentation of the committee's strategy and its executive programme was also made to the UN delegation. The delegation representatives asked questions on the various mechanisms and approaches adopted by the UAE to deal with human trafficking and were provided explanations on these issues by members of the committee.

His Excellency Dr. Saeed Al Ghufli, Executive Director of the Ministry and Coordinator of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, said that the visit of the UN delegation, including the visits of the Special Rapporteurs, comes in line with the UAE's commitment to implement the recommendations made government during the country's Universal Periodic Review before the Human Rights Council in Geneva in March, and to execute the UAE leadership's directive to interact positively with the UN entities, and protect human rights and combat human trafficking crimes in the country. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
