UAE National Day: Celebrations around the world

UAE's celebration of its 37th national day anniversary received wide coverage by regional and international media outlets, with many of them saying that what has been achieved by the country in such short span of time was nothing short of a miracle.

Qatar News Agency carried a feature on the anniversary which, it said, represented a turning point in the region's political and social life. It said that the UAE was striding confidently towards political, economic and social empowerment under the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Yemen News Agency (SABA) said in a report that the UAE has become the most attractive destination for investments, thanks to Sheikh Khalifa's prudent economic policies.

The Saudi Arabic language daily "Al Riyadh" published a special feature on the UAE and praised the country's rapid progress which enabled it to world's second in terms of highest per capita income.

Omani News Agency (ONA) said the UAE had paid a special attention to providing highest standards of public services such as healthcare, education, housing, utilities, social care and human resources development.

Kuwaiti News Agency (KUNA) paid homage to the founders of the UAE and the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, saying that they are still remembered with gratitude for their great achievement of making the unification dream a reality.

Kuwait's 'Al Rai Al Aaam' daily carried a report on the UAE's achievements under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, including empowering women, now representing 59 percent of the country's total workforce, 22 percent of the FNC membership and occupying four ministerial portfolios in the government.

Syria's 'Tishreen' newspaper referred to the country's strategy for developing clean energy resources through Masdar initiate that aims to explore alternative energy sources.

In Tunisia, 'Al Sabah' and 'Al Shurooq', tow of the largest circulating newspapers, spoke about the UAE miracles under Sheikh Khalifa's leadership.

In Bahrain, 'the daily 'Akhbar Al Khaleej' published pictures of celebrations to mark the 37th anniversary in the UAE, saying that one could barely find a car that was not ornamented to express joy over the event.

Jordan News Agency said in a feature that not only did the UAE make remarkable achievements in the economic and social front, but it also focused on the cultural side with new world-class museums and shows launched.

The Palestinian 'Al Quds' newspaper expressed gratitude to the UAE for the unlimited support given to the Palestinian people and the projects implemented there including the US$550 million Sheikh Zayed City in Gaza and the reconstruction of Jenin refugees' camp.

In the Philippines, three dailies; 'The Daily Mirror', 'Philippines Star' and 'Malaya', praised the progress made by the UAE in all walks of life.

In Seoul, the Yonhap News Agency carried an interview with the UAE Ambassador Abdullah Al Maeena who lauded the progress made by the country under the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
