"Based on its belief in the vital significance of science and learning as a means to achieving success and progress in development, the UAE Government's strategy has its main focus on investment in the process of human resources development as well as on all disciplines of education and knowledge", said H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed made his remarks as he received Sunday Nobel Laureates, internationally renowned scientists, thinkers and scholars who are participating in the Festival of Thinkers 2007 slated to be held on October 22-24 in the UAE capital city of Abu Dhabi.

"The participation of this record number of prominent thinkers, scholars and scientists reflects the keenness of the UAE's leadership, government and institutions on promoting learning, education as well as on tapping the experiences of others", stressed Sheikh Mohammed as he welcomed the prominent thought leaders.

For their part, participants in the upcoming event hailed the launch of the 'Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation', a major initiative to promote human development and provide hope and opportunity by investing in education and knowledge-development in the region. They stressed the initiative which was announced last May by Sheikh Mohammed at the World Economic Forum for the Middle East being held in Jordan is a real openness to all cultures of the world and offers a major contribution to efforts to promote the culture of peace, tolerance and co-existence.

Present at the meeting were Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan Arabic, Minister of Higher Education, Chancellor of Higher Colleges of Technology, Higher Colleges of Technology, Mohammad Al Gergawi, Minister of State for Cabinet and other senior officials.

The Festival of Thinkers is a biennial event organised by the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT0 under the patronage of General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

The Festival of Thinkers 2007 brings a record number of Nobel Laureates and over 100 World Thinkers together with young thinkers of the future to discuss topics of global interest. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
