UAE President holds talks with French President

President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan held talks in Abu Dhabi yesterday with French President Nicolas Sarkozy who arrived this morning on a state visit to the UAE. General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces was present at the talks held at Al Mushrif Palace in the capital.

Sheikh Khalifa welcomed the French President and the accompanying delegation and expressed his happiness over the achievements in the relations of cooperation and partnership between the two countries.

The two Heads of States discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between the two friendly countries in various fields, especially political, economic, military, cultural, tourism and investment that have made substantial development over the past years, reflecting the desire of the leadership in both the countries to widen the horizons of joint cooperation between them.

During the discussions Sheikh Khalifa reiterated the keenness of UAE in widening the avenues of cooperation and joint investment between the two countries. He valued the successful cultural and scientific convergence between UAE and France as witnessed through the establishment of the Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum in the Sa'adiyat Island and the Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, contributing towards bringing the civilisations and nations of the world closer to one another.

On his side, the French President thanked Sheikh Khalifa for the cordial reception and hospitality he and the accompanying delegation found during his first visit to the country, adding that they reflected the depth of the distinguished relations between UAE and France. Sarkozy expressed his hope that the visit will contribute towards widening the cooperation and joint investment between the two sides in a host of avenues.

Sarkozy hailed the fast developments UAE has achieved in various fields, adding that UAE has become a successful model among the countries in the entire region, be it on political plain or in the fields of economic and human development. He underlined the keenness of France in enhancing relations with UAE, especially in the political, economic and cultural fields.

The talks were attended by Ruler's Representative in the Eastern Region Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Interior Minister Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, other senior officials and UAE ambassador to France Saif Sultan Mubarak Al Aryani.

On the French side the meeting was attended by Foreign and European Affairs Minister Bernard Kouchner, Defence Minister Herve Morin, France's ambassador to UAE Patrice Paoli and a number of high ranking officials accompanying the French President. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
