President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has instructed the Red Crescent Authority (RCA) to send urgent relief to Indonesia to help the victims of Tsunami in Sumatra region and Merapi Volcano.

Upon the instructions from Sheikh Khalifa, the RCA has commenced delivery of relief aid to the affected families at the camps and shelters under supervision of the UAE Embassy in Indonesia in coordination with the Indonesian Red Cross and the UAE RCA.

The move is supported by the Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai H. H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, H.H. General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and follow up from H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed, Ruler's Representative in Western Region, Chairman of the RCA.

The RCA has set up the operation room to monitor the repercussions of Tsunami and the volcano. The RCA was one of the major humanitarian bodies, which provided relief aid to the victims of Tsunami, that devastated Sumatra Island in 2005, and the victims of Java Island earthquake in 2006. It also delivered relief aid to the victims of the earthquake, which hit Sumatra Island again in 2009.

The RCA rehabilitated the areas devastated by Tsunami by implementing ambitious projects, among others, construction of the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan City in coordination with United Nations Development Programme in 2007. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
