A UAE relief plane left last Thursday for Baghdad as part of the Red Crescent Society's airbridge to assist Iraqi people. The plane, the 27th by the RCS to Iraq, is carrying 35 tonnes of medical supplies donated by Tawam hospital in Al Ain to the Iraqi health sector. RCS Secretary General Sana Darwish Al Kutbi said the society was closely following the deteriorating humanitarian condition in Iraq due to the escalation of situation there and was working to improve the living conditions of the Iraqi people.

She noted that reports from RCS representatives in Iraq had underlined the hardship faced by Iraqis to get their daily basic needs. 'This situation lays heavy responsibility on the shoulder of international relief agencies working in Iraq,' she noted. She added that these supplies would go to the most needy hospitals and part of them would be directed to the Rashidya health centre which was built by the RCS at a cost of US$120,000. She thanked the Tawam hospital management for their support for Iraqi people. The RCS distributed over the past couples of days humanitarian assistance to the needy families in Nasserya, Basra and Ammara. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
