UAE RCS humanitarian campaign in Azerbaijan in full swing

Baku - The UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS) headed by Saleh Muhammad Al Mulla, RCS Deputy Secretary General for Foreign Affairs, held here a meeting with Ali Hasnov, the Azeri Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Governmental Committee for Displaced and Refugees' Affairs and Chairman of the Azeri Republican Committee for Humanitarian Aid.



The UAE delegation briefed Hasnov on the humanitarian mission which is being carried out under directives from Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of UAE Red Crescent Society, with the aim to alleviate the suffering of the needy and homeless in this country.



The delegation is distributing food supplies, blankets, heating appliances and other stuff to the displaced and needy. Hasnov lauded the directives of Sheikh Hamdan and the continuous UAE humanitarian aid.



Hasnov added that the Azeri people expressed their gratitude to President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the UAE people for ongoing support to alleviate the suffering of the displaced in Azerbaijan. Hasnov briefed the UAE's RCS delegation on the situation of more than one million displaced Azeri people around the capital Baku.



Another meeting has been held between the UAE delegation and Qurban Sadqoov, Chairman of the Department of Refugees and the Displaced and Immigration and Co-ordination with International organizations in the Azeri cabinet.



Almulla stressed that the delegation would in the coming few days procure and despatch a large consignment of relief supplies to the refugee camps. Sadqov said the people and government of Azerbaijan appreciated the generous aids which came from a Muslim people to their brothers.



The Azeri displaced are in need of basic food supplies, blankets, winter clothes, heating appliances and tents, Sadqov added. He said that those people lived in makeshift tin structures demolished buildings, underground caves and deserted railway carriages.



Sadqov said that the UAE RCS was the first humanitarian organization to arrive in the country in the third millennium after the exodus of refugees. The UAE RCS delegation held a meeting here with Azeri MP and Chairman of the Azeri Red Crescent Noroz Aslanov who briefed the delegation on the situation in the refugee camps.



The delegation met also local suppliers to discuss procurement and making 50-kg relief packages for 2500-300 families. Eighty tonnes of food supplies and 2500 blankets were directly bought by the UAE RCS from local suppliers who expressed their readiness to send relief items to other affected Azeri cities.
