Completing twenty seven eventful years in the service of humanity, the UAE Red Crescent Authority is crossing another milestone with more determination to wipe the tears of those who suffer in distress around the world.
The humanitarian initiative of UAE was founded on 31st 1983 with strong support from the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Across years of its ardent work, the Red Crescent Authority found ample backing and support from President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
RCA's humanitarian operations are closely followed up by HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the RCA.
RCA could make great achievements in terms of global humanitarian work as a result of the noble initiatives of HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Supreme Chairperson of Family Development Foundation and honorary president of the Red Crescent.
The benefactors among citizens and residents, the relief teams, staff and volunteers of the RCA also played a great role in developing it into a strong humanitarian organisation among the national charity societies, which falls under the banner of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent. Currently there are 186 such national associations around the world.
The UAE Red Crescent Authority is considered a national volunteer institution based on the same objectives and principles underlying the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to provide help and assistance to the most vulnerable groups without discrimination as to nationality, race, colour, religious beliefs, political and intellectual affiliations. RCA is the only entity in the country representing the International Movement of Red Cross and Red Crescent in accordance with the rules laid down in international conventions.
Board Chairman of the RCA Ahmed Humaid Al Mazroui said that UAE, under the leadership of President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, emphasises every day its pioneering role in the humanitarian field and excellence in providing support and assistance to the victims and the needy.
Al Mazroui noted that RCA was prompt in delivering fast and speedy relief aid to the Haitians in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in the Caribbean country.
He stressed that the UAE's efforts for the safeguarding of human dignity and the adoption of human cases have found appreciation and continuous praise from international community. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
