UAE Ambassador to Algeria, Hamad Saeed al-Za'abi, and officials from the UAE Red Crescent Society, RCS, today attended a briefing held by the Algerian Red Crescent Society and Algerian Government on the extent of the damages caused by floods that recently devastated parts of Algeria. Algerian officials said that 28 planes laden with relief supplies from 18 Arab and foreign countries arrived in Algeria. They estimated initial cost of the damages caused by the floods at US$250 million while the cost of the material lost was still under study. The relevant Algerian authorities said that electric power was restored to 450,000 families and that efforts were underway to return gas to more than 5000 families out of 200,000 houses which went without gas supply during the flood period. The Algerian officials praised the quick response of the UAE authorities to help the flood victims. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
