Gaza - Representatives of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) in Gaza received yesterday medical supplies sent by the UAE Red Crescent Authority to Gaza hospitals The convoy carrying the several life saving medicines had started to arrive in Gaza via the Rafah crossing. The PRCS will distribute ten tons of medical supplies to various hospitals and healthcare centres in Gaza, according to the needs of each of them.

The medical supplies are part of the humanitarian convoy which was flagged off as per directives from President H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and H.H General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

The dispatch of the convoy is closely followed up by H.H Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and the Chairman of UAE Red Crescent.

Dr. Khalil Abu Faul, Director of Disaster control and the Acting Vice President of the Red Crescent in Gaza, said that the aid arrived in the right time as the Gaza Strip was suffering from severe shortages in a number of necessary medicines.

The medical supplies included Anti-Cancer drugs and were immediately dispatched to the warehouses of the Ministry of Health in Gaza. These vital and life saving medicines were in urgent need as the hospitals were not able to get the expensive medicines, which meant that the lives of hundreds of Palestinians were at risk, Dr. Khalil added.

Israel has been widely accused of using 'cancer bombs' frequently on Gaza in the military operations against the Mediterranean strip.

Dr. Khalil said that the assistance provided by the UAE RCA always maintains the quality and comes at the times when it is most needed.

"Since the last two years, the joint humanitarian projects with the UAE RCA has never stopped and the medical assistance provided by the RCA always kept its high standard and quality", said Omar Al-Azayezah, Administrative Director of the Gaza Red Crescent. The supplies will save the lives of several patients who had lost hope of survival, he added, expressing profound gratitude to UAE and its leaders.

Meanwhile, the UN's Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced that the convoy carrying essential food donated by the UAE Red Crescent had arrived at the 'Ouja' crossing on its way to the Gaza Strip. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
