UAE Red Crescent to set up camp in Pakistan

The UAE Red Crescent Society will set up a camp in Pakistan to provide urgent relief aid for Afghan refugees stranded on Afghanistan's border. The move is in keeping with directives of the President His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the society. A RCS's delegation led by Saeed Mohammed Al Mansoury, discussed with Iftikhar Hussain Shah, representative of the Pakistani Government in the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) the RCS's plan to build a camp in the province to provide the Afghan refugees with all necessities.



The refugees will be supplied with blankets, food, baby formula, medicines and other necessities. 'The RCS will buy humanitarian aid from local markets to satisfy the refugees' needs,' said Saleh Mohammed Al Mulla, RCS Deputy Secretary General for Foreign Affairs. 'The society will also dig wells,' he added. Shah expressed gratitude to Sheikh Zayed and the UAE's people for their genuine stand toward the Afghan people in all difficulties and hardships. He expressed readiness to provide the RCS with all facilities to make its mission successful. (The Gulf News)
