DOHA: The UAE swimming team has been awarded 15 medals, including eight gold, four silver and three bronze, at the 25th GCC Swimming Championship, currently being held in Qatar. This makes the UAE team runner-up to Qatar with a difference of 5 golds, and thus the closest it has ever been to obtaining the GCC title in the championship's history.

Yaaqub Al Saadi from Al Ain Swimming Club succeeded in achieving a new international and personal best in the 200 metres backstroke with a time of 58:34 seconds, he also achieved another personal record by winning three gold medals.
