UAE Vice President attends opening meeting of UAE-China business forum

Beijing - Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum attended yesterday the opening session of the UAE-China Economic Council meeting in Shanghai under the chairmanship of UAE Minister of Foreign Trade HE Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President, Dubai's Department of Civil Aviation and CEO of Emirates Group, HE Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, HE Reem Ibrahim Al Hashimi, Minister of State, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, Lt. General Musabbah Rashid Al Fattan, Director of Sheikh Mohammed's Office, Mohammed bin Ali Al Abbar Chairman of Dubai Department of Economic Development, a number of senior economic officials in Shanghai in addition to more than 50 Emarati and Chinese investors and businessmen. The business meeting will end on April 4.

Addressing the forum, Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of Foreign Trade enumerated her country's plan to diversify the economy and attract foreign direct investments.

"The UAE's Federal Government Strategy focuses on empowerment of the private sector so as to take a proactive role in the development of the country", she told the forum. He noted that the UAE and China have had long and strong relations for decades.

For his part, the Chairman of the Federation of the UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry underlined UAE's interest to forge strategic partnership with China.

Afterwards, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, attended the signing of a number agreements between UAE firms and Chinese partners. In one of the first high-level Sino-UAE public-private partnerships, Emaar Properties PJSC, the Dubai-based property developer, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Shanghai China-News Enterprise Development Limited, a Chinese government entity and subsidiary of the People's Daily Shanghai branch, to explore mixed-use property and infrastructure development projects in key Chinese cities.
