UAE Women's team beats Guatemala at Chess Olympiad

UAE Women's team beat the Guatemalan team in a chess battle, 3-1, while the Men's team had to concede the Spanish victory 1-3 in the 2008 World Chess Olympiad at the International Congress Centre in Dresden, Germany, on Saturday.

UAE now stands at the third position among the Arab countries, with Egypt and Qatar ranking first and third.

Over 1527 players representing 141 countries are participating in the 38th Olympiad, the largest chess Olympiad ever.

Sulaiman Al Fahim, the president of UAE chess Federation, is heading the 23-member delegation and UAE is expected to make a major bid for future official events UAE's Women's team at the international event is composed of Jamila Juma, Khulood Essa, Noora Saleh, Faiqa Saleh and Amnah Salem. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
