A UAE newspaper today praised the UAE's humanitarian activities in helping people worldwide. The Abu Dhabi-based Al Ittihad Arabic newspaper said: "The UAE, under the wise leadership of President H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, has presented a leading model in humanitarian deeds without distinction between colour, sex or race, and is always leading humanitarian works. "The UAE humanitarian flag was the first to flutter in Somalia, Bosnia, Chechnya, and Palestine. It effectively participated since the beginning of the Balkan crisis and helped the Kosovar refugees by establishing a camp for them which attracted the world's attention. In line with the directives of President Sheikh Zayed, the UAE also operated an airport on the Albanian borders in Kukes in a period of 10 days to help in supplying relief assistance to refugees. The UAE Armed Forces also performed good security and humane works in Kosovo which attracted the international attention. They reconstructed thousands of houses and schools, reconstructed factories, while the UAE field hospital is still offering its services for both Serbs and Albanians. The UAE also started the building of Zayed hospital there. "Today the UAE is helping the Afghan people who suffer from difficult circumstances due to the lack of food, clothes and even water. In line with the directives of President Sheikh Zayed and H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and the follow up of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and President of the UAE Red Crescent Society, RCS, urgent relief assistance were dispatched to Afghan people to ease their suffering. The UAE was the first in the world to send caravans to assist the Afghan people, starting from Jalalabad, then Kabul and tomorrow a caravan will head for the Afghan city of Kandhahar, recording the best example of humanitarian deeds. This is Zayed's school of donation, charity and generosity from which the UAE citizens graduate with noble values and keenness to spread peace and love. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
